Going to Telluride, CO. In October. Any recommendations?

Flying into Denver and driving down. Anyone know if snow will be a issue? We are doing some hiking. My girlfriend thinks we need to rent a SUV to get to the trailheads which I find hard to believe.

I'm flying to Tahoe on Sunday with the whole family, gonna have a blast.

My brother is driving to Silverton and Durango in a couple weeks (near Telluride) they're going to have a blast as well.
